Teaching

"Professor Gio was easily one of the best teachers I have ever had! Despite it being an 8:30 class, he arrived each day with energy and enthusiasm for what he was teaching! He was both hilarious and insightful. I am so glad I had the opportunity to take this course with Professor Gio."

"I cannot say enough good things about Professor Gio! I enjoyed this class the most this semester by far. I wish I could take this professor again and again. He explained philosophy in a way that is understandable for college students and would always clarify if we had a question. The class was engaging and I was never bored. I also enjoyed the amount of assignments we had. It was manageable but still beneficial to my learning, and it was nice to have breaks in between assignments to not feel daunted by our coursework."

"Gio is a very intelligent, understanding, and funny teacher. He genuinely cares for all his students and will encourage the sharing of any opinion, no matter how wild it is. His teaching style almost feels more like a friend talking to us who is very knowledgeable on a topic, and it makes the classes much more engaging and relatable. His use of humor in his classes are great and genuinely make me laugh. Gio also knows how to keep the class moving and is not afraid to interject when a student rambles too much in a 50 minute class, which is very much appreciated. Also, his feedback on assignments is unmatched, and genuinely very helpful."

“The entire session developed mostly as a dialogue between instructor and students. Whenever Gio asked a question, hands always went up immediately. At least two thirds of the students (perhaps more) contributed actively to the session at one point or another and participation was well distributed with no one dominating. Even the few students who did not speak seemed engaged and interested. He guided them through a clear explication of the main issues at stake in the dialogue, outlining the argument on the board by summarizing (and sometimes slightly rephrasing) the student contributions. Gio often encouraged them to say more, for example, by asking after a contribution: ‘Good, can you explain this to me?’ He engaged them in further conversation, asking students to clarify or say more, give an example, etc., always in a very affirmative and encouraging fashion. The students were clearly thinking philosophically. Even as the class was nearing its end, no student packed up, but they were listening and engaged to the final moment.”

"I found it very positive how Prof Gio made us always seem comfortable in participating and he sparked very interesting conversations and ideas. Prof Gio is very relaxed and one of the best professors for philosophy. The topics for papers were always very interesting. I always found it useful how he would give a small recap of what we learned previous class to the next one."

— Spring 2023

"Gio was a great professor. He was really good at starting discussions and getting us to dissect and understand the readings and topics on our own. He guided our discussion very effectively. He created a great environment to ask questions and really dig into these deep ideas. He was great at connecting what we were learning to the real, modern world. He was fun and very interesting and kind."

"He made the class extremely enjoyable. I wanted to show up every day. He did a great job of connecting topics to modern examples, making it more enjoyable"
